Great Unit,

This unit is pretty awesome especially with frame.
Also, a noteworthy thing is this camera first does 16 x 9 and then encoding producing a higher quality image than a comparable Sony model.

I’ve actually owned the precursor unit to this one, the GL1, and was also pleased with it.

This camera has the hotshoe feature and the longest OPTICAL zoom in its class.

Optical VS Digital, optical definitely wins.

This camera is all-a-round useful and also, this unit is actually the preferred camera of choice for many sports film-makers.

If you take this thing to the slopes like i have, strangers will come up to you and instantly recognize the unit.

Great with kenko lenses.

Only actual thing I’ve seen is that it doesn’t like low light, so adding a VL-3 is a must, or a VL-10 is recommended.

One thing to watch out for is that you must keep care of the camera. For example, you must get yourself a tape-head-cleaner. The Maxell’s are a good buy, but you could go OEM if you want to.
Also, don’t cheap out on the cassettes.
In my 6 years of using the GL1/GL2, I’ve always used TDK and JVC tapes. The JVCs come in a 6-pack and can be found a a best buy. The TDKs also come in a 6-pack, and you can find them at Costco.

For more reference, I have pushed this camera beyond its specification as it has been rained on, snowed on, and frozen to the point where there is actually lag in the LCDs and yet, it still works like brand new.

Definitely a good buy !  More Information…

Best camera I’ve ever used,

I’ve had this camera now for 6 months. I heard all the hype about it’s “faults” etc so was a little concerned. But, then I really started to read, and found that most of the issue was hype. Only some photographers in some specific conditions had the problem. Then Canon announced some hardware and firmware fixes.

This camera is just stunning. The quick and accurate AF is brilliant. It can lock on and track the target very well. It’s clearly sharper for centre focus but also does brilliant for landscape images and still portraits.

The fps and burst rate is second to none. It’s a beast when you set it off. I shoot mostly sport, so a nice burst can be the difference between capturing and missing that image.

The body is great. Not too heavy for what it does, and it’s balanced very well. The construction and weather sealing are great.

I could go on and on about just how good this camera is. It is well worth having a look at. So, go to your local store, feel the camera, fire off a burst and then there’s no going back.  More Information..

35mm Camera

This camera is Great!,

I had been searching Amazon for a camera for about a year and had decided on a camera to get. But then one night I was searching through amazon again and came across the rebel 2000 and bought it that night. The design was my first concern when deciding on what to get, I have bigger hands so little cameras are hard for me to deal with. While this camera is not a HUGE one it is just the right size for me and I love it. The shutter button is in a great spot to. Other cameras i have had in the past have had the button right on the top of the camera, not this one, they put the button where the finger would naturally fall. Inturn making my pictures a lot less blurry from not haveing to move my finger to press the shuttter button.

This is definetly a camera for a beginning professional photographer. You can set the camera at manual or total auto, which is great. There are many pre-set settings if your not a professional photographer, but if you are they are all pretty much there.

I will definetly be recomending this camera to anyone who is looking into buying a good one.  More Information…

Great camera with great features. Highly recommended for ProAm use.,

I wanted to have the camera for a few months before submitting my review. Now that I’ve had time to play around and really use it I can here is my review.

Canon 50D

I purchased the camera without the kit lens and opted for the 50mm 1.8 II instead. I wanted something fun to play around with and with faster glass I wouldn’t have to push the ISO too high. I also bought the grip which I don’t ever want to take off. It really gives the camera a good feel. I had made the trip to a camera store before to check out which camera fit me the best. I was tempted to get the t1i but the Rebel series feels like a toy in my hands. I have smaller hands too but I just didn’t like anything the Rebel line had to offer.

I’ve shot with a SLR before. My first camera was an older Nikon N6006 that my dad got for me. I ended up going Canon because reading over the features for the price range and available glass, Canon seemed like the best choice to me.  More Information

Canon EOS 7D

The Canon 7D is a 5 Star Camera,

I intentionally waited before reviewing this camera. When it first came out, I was a little dissapointed. Not so much with the camera, but with the typical industry adoption rate. Lack of Adobe Lightroom support on Day 1, was a very painful price of being an early adopter.
Having had this camera now for several months, I have to say it’s got everything I need it for and more. I use it for weddings, portraits, wildlife, sports and video, and it doesn’t skip a beat. This is by far the most versatile camera out there. True, the 5DMk2 may take better images when you zero in on the pixels, but this is VERY close behind that. And, the 5dMK2 won’t give me the high FPS that I need for sports and wildlife photography, not to mention how amazing the focus is on this camera.
I think the only thing “wrong” with this camera is the price. Canon easily could have charged more for it!  For more Information

Nikon D3000

Great Camera and Easy to Use,

Received this for Christmas, 2009. I am not a photog, but I have owned film SLRs in the past. This is my first Nikon. This camera is an excellent “point and shoot” for beginners like me, but also seems to have a lot of potential uses and effects that will keep me busy learning for the near future. Very user-friendly, and comes with abundant supporting materials, including two DVDs. So, if you are beginning to get into serious photographing (me, after many years away from it) this would appear to be a great camera to get. You can work your way to more complicated and satisfying uses at your own pace, and yet use it right away as a “point and shoot.” For my purposes, just perfect.

Cameta Photo service was great – on time and well-packed. They followed up with a satisfaction e-mail. I have not had to use their services again as nothing has gone wrong, but they seem to be professional and concerned. Amazon, as always in my experience, was also great.  More Information…

Amazingly Easy to Use,

Right out of the box this camera is very user friendly. I have never used or operated a digital camcorder and was using most of its functions within 15 minutes. The instructions are very easy to follow and well written. They also include very good pictures to let you know what to press. The touch screen on the LCD makes the camera extremely easy to use. The zoom is very stable and the steady shot feature really helps keep the picture from being too shaky. The 60 gig hard drive allows you to record anywhere from 15-45 hrs (depending on quality of video desired) which was a huge selling point for me because it doesn’t require buying 5-8 memory cards! It is incredibly light and easy to carry around with you as well. My only negative comment is that the record button isn’t reachable with your right hand when using the camera so you have to use your other hand to hit it. Not really a big deal, however. All in all, I must say hats off to Sony for making a quality camera for a reasonable price.  More Information…

Sony Digital Reader Touch

Sony Digital Reader TouchSony Digital Reader Touch 3.5stars

Very happy with this Sony Reader,

I’ve been on the fence about getting a digital reader for a while now. With three main contenders (Amazon’s Kindle, B&N’s upcoming Nook, and Sony’s Reader), I was a bit overwhelmed by which one to choose. I finally decided to get the Sony PRS600 mostly because I was able to physically hold and play with it at the SonyStyle store. The Kindle simply wasn’t aesthetically pleasing (reminds me of a 1980’s Radio Shack device) and the Nook isn’t available yet. Well since I’ve never owned the other Readers, I will just comment on why I love the PRS600.

First of all, the hardware is slick – it just looks and feels very well designed and manufactured. I bought the silver version and got a black cover to compliment it. Secondly, Sony finally got it right this time by matching the quality of the software with their hardware. The Sony Reader software and store interface is streamlined, elegant, and just works; it is very similar to iTunes in fact. Other things I really like – the screen is very legible, I love double-tapping on a word and having the dictionary definitions pop up, and I love swiping the screen with the stylus or my finger to turn the page. Note-taking is very simple, and I like drawing in the notes section (like an etch-a-sketch but with a stylus, fun!) I also like having access to the free Google classics which are optimized for the Sony Reader.

So, if you’re still debating about the PRS600, I can tell you that it is a very well engineered and crafted device with streamlined software and a very good online bookstore to support it.  More Information…

Wonder Computer!! HIGHLY RECOMMNED,

I bought this computer two weeks ago from [...], and I got it for a great price. Let me preface, I am a HUGE fan of the iMac and love all of Apple’s products, but this computer folks is REALLY a good value. I got mine for $750 with Windows 7, and it is super easy to set up, very accesible, well designed, and runs really quick. The touch screen is not gimmicky because it works quite well! The slimline keyboard that it comes with is very nice, even the mouse is sturdy. The webcam function is SO much fun and my girlfriend and I enjoy talking to her family in Poland on it via Skype. It has some really fun things to do on it :) We love pictures and taking videos of our kids and such, and this computer makes everything so easy and fun, we went and got her the HP DV7 laptop to go with it! HP is back on top!! More Information…

macbook air apple

macbook air apple laptopMacbook air apple laptop 5stars

Great go anywhere laptop,

I’ve owned a few Apple portable computers over the years, starting with the PowerBook 100 through the MacBook Pro 15″. The MacBook Air with the SSD option is great.

I love the thin profile, light weight and speed of this computer. In the 2 weeks since it arrived from Amazon, I’ve been streaming my iMac’s iTunes library (music and video) to the Air, watching YouTube, general Internet use, email, gaming (Quake III and Pangea Arcade.)

The system is very responsive and doesn’t really heat up much unless I’m playing a game or watching video (iTunes or YouTube) for a while. The fan is pretty quiet and quickly ramps down when the processor idles back. The LED-backlit screen is great as is the backlit keyboard. Typing is a pleasure with this keyboard and I thought I wouldn’t like it from the pictures.

As many have pointed out, it would be nice to have easier access to the USB port. I happen to have an extension USB cable that I use to connect a 32GB thumb drive. The thumb drive casing is too large to fit the port otherwise. I’m planning on getting the Air Superdrive soon. However, using Remote Disc from my iMac was super easy and trouble free.

Battery life seems fine, as I’m getting about 4 to 5 hours if I’m conservative with the backlight. This is with WiFi on and Bluetooth off. We have an Airport Extreme (dual network) base station and I’m getting full network connectivity throughout the house.

I do wish the vents on the back/underside were a bit different, as they appear to be prone to getting covered up if not on a flat surface. I’ll be getting iWork and Photoshop Elements 8 in a few days and will see how those apps work. I haven’t connected my Canon EOS 40D camera yet, but expect the Air to be a great traveling companion to the camera.

All in all, I’m a very satisfied owner of the MacBook Air. Amazon was a pleasure to order from as usual.  More Information….
